The Heidelberg Health Economics Summer School will take place in Heidelberg, Germany, from July, 1 to 5 , 2019, under the auspices of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the University of Heidelberg.
The Summer School will consist of three consecutive modules. All modules will be highly interactive and are comprised of lectures, exercises, and discussion.
- Module A (July 01 – 02) will introduce and review the economics of health and health care, illustrating how analytical techniques help to understand the way health systems operate, and how new health technologies are evaluated.
- Module B (July 03) will focus on how to develop a simple yet expandable health-economic Markov model using Excel.
- Module C (July 04 – 05) will be dedicated to an in-depth review of the strengths and limitations of the conventional logic of cost-effectiveness, illustrating the need for broader or alternative concepts that capture citizens’ social norms and preferences, and the attempts made to search for such alternatives.
