The Executive Committee (EC) of HTAi, on behalf of the Board of Directors, is pleased to announce Rob Abbott as the new Executive Director (ED) of the HTAi Secretariat.  Wendy Ellen Inc. managed the search process and vetted over 250 applicants before the HTAi Executive Committee made its decision.

Rob has exceptional organizational leadership capabilities, in medical life sciences and other contexts, as well as experience as a certified management consultant advising other organizations on public health and related issues, and experience and expertise as a certified coach.  He has run one of Canada’s Networks of Centres of Excellence focused on gene-based medicine, served as a Strategy and Sustainability Practice Leader for both Deloitte and PwC, and been an Executive Director in three divisions of the British Columbia Ministry of Environment.  Rob is equally comfortable discussing advances in scientific research on the one hand, and the translation of that research into practical diagnostics and therapeutics on the other.

Perhaps most importantly at this moment in the HTAi Secretariat’s history, Rob is a leader who excels at creating trust-based relationships and, having established trust, working collaboratively to create exceptional outcomes.  He also possesses cross-cultural awareness having worked on six continents – this awareness and experience can be leveraged as HTAi seeks to grow its presence in low to middle income countries.

Rob took up his ED duties on October 1, and he is looking forward to engaging with the HTAi team and communicating his values and desire to create the space in which a picture of the next stage of HTAi’s journey is co-created under his leadership.  He cares passionately about improving health outcomes globally and sees HTA as a vehicle to achieve this.  With that in mind, he wants to inspire the Secretariat team, and offer the team the support it needs to help advance the vision and mission of HTAi.

We look forward to the expertise and guidance Rob is sure to bring to HTAi.
