Call for Applications: Scientific Secretary of the HTAi Latin America Policy Forum

HTAi is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual or organization to serve as the Scientific Secretary for the HTAi Latin America Policy Forum (Term: April 2026 – April 2027). The successful candidate will be expected to shadow the current Scientific Secretary at the 2025 Latin America Policy Forum in Mexico City (August 10–12, 2025) to ensure a smooth transition into the role.

Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi) is the global scientific and professional society for individuals and organizations engaged in health technology assessment (HTA). HTAi serves as a neutral, multi-stakeholder forum, bringing together researchers, agencies, policymakers, industry representatives, academia, healthcare providers, and patients/consumers to advance HTA globally. With members from over 60 countries, HTAi fosters international collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

HTAi Latin America Policy Forum

The HTAi Policy Forum series is one of the Society’s most important activities, convening three invitation-only meetings annually in Europe/North America, Asia, and Latin America. The Latin America Policy Forum provides a unique opportunity for senior representatives from public and private sector organizations in the region to engage in high-level strategic discussions on HTA and its role in healthcare systems. The meeting fosters collaboration among different sectors, members of the HTAi Board, and invited international experts. Discussions focus on regional priorities and challenges, ensuring cross-sectoral dialogue that is free from the constraints of product- or organization-specific policies.

Responsibilities of the Scientific Secretary

  • Develop an outline to guide discussions on topic selection, working closely with the Policy Forum Chair.
  • Participate in the scoping discussion and provide summary notes on key points and materials.
  • Join Policy Forum Organizing Committee meetings and regularly scheduled team discussions throughout the term.
  • Lead the topic selection process in collaboration with the Policy Forum Chair, Organizing Committee, and HTAi community.
  • Draft a background paper to support Forum discussions, ensuring it is made publicly available on the HTAi website.
  • Assist in agenda development for the Policy Forum meeting.
  • Attend the Policy Forum meeting, present the background paper, and facilitate discussions.
  • Draft a post-meeting report summarizing key discussions, in consultation with the Policy Forum Chair and Organizing Committee.
  • Develop a journal article for the International Journal of Technology Assessment in HealthCare (IJTAHC), summarizing key Forum discussions.
  • Attend the HTAi Annual Meeting and contribute to a panel presentation.
  • Manage Policy Forum member communications.

Essential Qualifications

  • Fluently bilingual in English and Spanish (written and oral)
  • Expertise in HTA and familiarity with HTAi’s work.
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Scientific curiosity and ability to synthesize complex policy discussions.
  • A recognized track record in policy work related to HTA, as demonstrated by a publication record and relevant academic/policy positions.
  • Experience in facilitating complex policy and scientific discussions.
  • Understanding of perspectives from both for-profit and not-for-profit sectors in HTA and health system policy.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with global teams in developing scientific materials.
  • Strong communication, project management, and relationship-building skills.
  • A flexible schedule to accommodate workload variations throughout the year.
  • Experience as lead author of peer-reviewed articles (preferred).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Honorarium of $41,192 USD per year for scientific and administrative support.
  • Travel expenses covered (economy airfare, accommodation, ground transportation, and meals for Policy Forum meetings).
  • Recognition as lead author for key materials developed in the role.

NOTE: Undertaking this role precludes individuals from nominating themselves for the HTAi Board of Directors.
