HTAi Brings an International HTA Perspective to Guangzhou, China
HTAi Executive Director George Valiotis participated in the HTA Sub-forum Exchange Session of the 2026 Guangzhou Medical and Health Industry Expo, contributing to an important conversation about how artificial intelligence is reshaping healthcare and health technology assessment.
In his presentation, What Is the World Learning About AI in Healthcare? And What Should Health Systems Do Next?, George shared insights emerging from across the HTA community, exploring AI’s potential to accelerate evidence generation, strengthen decision-making, and create new efficiencies across the HTA lifecycle.
He also emphasized that realizing this potential will depend on more than technological advancement. Trust, transparency, governance, validation and human accountability will be essential as health systems determine how AI can be adopted responsibly and effectively.
George’s participation reflects HTAi’s commitment to connecting perspectives across regions and advancing thoughtful, evidence-informed approaches to emerging technologies as the field continues to evolve.
Eva Turk Takes the Lead as Annual Meeting Committee Chair
HTAi is delighted to welcome Eva Turk of Austria as the new Chair of the Annual Meeting Committee (AMC).
The Annual Meeting is an important opportunity for the HTA community to come together, exchange ideas and evidence, build connections, and explore the questions shaping the future of the field. As Chair, Eva will help guide the committee as it looks ahead to the next gathering.
The HTAi 2027 Annual Meeting will take place June 12–16, 2027, in Brussels, Belgium, bringing the HTA community together for new ideas, fresh perspectives and meaningful conversations.
As preparations get underway, we look forward to the leadership Eva will bring to the AMC — and to welcoming the HTA community to Brussels in 2027.

This June, the HTAi 2026 Annual Meeting brought more than 780 delegates from 64+ countries together in Istanbul for five days of learning, collaboration, and connection. From pre-conference workshops and thought-provoking plenaries to the Exhibition Hall, Annual General Meeting, awards, and conference dinner, the week was filled with opportunities to share ideas and explore the future of HTA.

Where should the HTA community meet next?
HTAi is inviting Expressions of Interest from organizations interested in hosting the Annual Meeting in 2028, 2029 or 2030. Organizations can express interest in one year, multiple years, or any suitable year.
A new streamlined process puts the focus on what matters most at this stage: finding strong host organizations and destinations with a compelling HTA environment, opportunities for local and regional engagement, partnership potential, and something meaningful to contribute to the wider HTA community.
Getting started is simple. Interested organizations first complete a short Registration of Interest and connect with the HTAi team before being invited to prepare a formal EOI.

What Happens When Evidence Starts Earlier?
For medical devices, generating the right evidence early can help inform the decisions that follow. Early feasibility studies are creating new opportunities to explore what that could mean for HTA.
On 16 September 2026, the HTAi Medical Devices Interest Group (MDIG) will bring together experts for Early Feasibility Studies for Medical Devices: HEU-EFS Progress and Implications for Early Evidence Generation and HTA.
The discussion will feature Richard Charter, MDIG Co-Chair, alongside Giuditta Callea of SDA Bocconi, Laura Sampietro-Colom of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, and Adrian Valledor of IDIBAPS. The session will explore progress from HEU-EFS and consider how earlier evidence generation could inform HTA as medical technologies move through development.

Philippines: HTA Council Advances Assessment of Breast Cancer Treatment
The Philippines’ Health Technology Assessment Council released a preliminary recommendation in August following its evidence appraisal of trastuzumab for HER2-overexpressing early-stage breast cancer. The latest issuance provides a timely example of HTA informing decisions about access to high-value cancer treatments in the Philippines.
Middle East and North Africa: New Policy Dialogue Maps Priorities for Strengthening HTA
A newly published analysis of an HTAi-led policy dialogue involving experts from 12 MENA countries identifies governance, technical and system capacity, and stronger health data infrastructure as key priorities for advancing HTA. The findings also point to strong support for regional cooperation through shared assessments, training and HTA networks.
Digital Health: New Research Maps What Matters in Digital HTA
New research from the European Digital Health Technology Assessment (EDiHTA) project maps the domains being used to assess digital health technologies. Across 44 sources, researchers identified 13 assessment domains and found broad alignment in areas such as clinical effectiveness, safety and economic considerations, while areas including environmental, legal, regulatory and some ethical dimensions remain less consistently addressed.
