◤ Celebrating International Women’s Day 2025
March 8 is International Women’s Day, a global movement recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is also a call to action for accelerating gender equality worldwide. This year, the 2025 theme, Accelerate Action, highlights the urgency of breaking down barriers and driving meaningful progress.
According to the World Economic Forum, at the current pace, full gender parity will not be achieved until 2158—five generations from now. This stark reality underscores the need to act swiftly and decisively to create a more inclusive world for women and girls. Incorporating gender-based analysis into HTA helps to identify disparities in health outcomes, advocate for equitable resource allocation, and support innovations that improve healthcare access for women and girls. As a women-led organization, HTAi champions this approach, reinforcing the importance of inclusive research, policy development, and implementation to drive meaningful progress toward gender equity in healthcare systems worldwide.

◤ IJTAHC Opens Call for Associate Editors
The International Journal of Technology Assessment in Healthcare is currently recruiting Associate Editors. Please feel free to share this with any colleagues who may be interested.
The International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care (IJTAHC) is published by Cambridge University Press and is the journal of Health Technology Assessment International (HTAi). We are calling for new Associate Editors to participate in the editorial process and develop the journal. Suitable candidates with considerable experience in HTA and evidence-based medicine are invited to apply. Clinical experience and additional expertise in some of the following areas would also be useful: health economics, systematic reviews, statistics, patient/citizen involvement or health policy. We are particularly keen to recruit individuals with expertise and experience in qualitative health research.
Applicants would be expected to have a good publication record and excellent English writing skills. Additionally, please highlight your connection to/knowledge of HTA.
In this role you would be expected to manage around 12 articles per year, finding reviewers and making recommendations to the Deputy Editor, as well as provide some reviews as necessary. It will require regular activity on the journal website to facilitate a timely review process, which is essential for attracting authors to publish with us. The estimated time required is in the order of 2 to 3 hours per week. This is a voluntary role and thus there is no remuneration, however there is recognition as both an editor and a reviewer.
If you are interested, please submit a short application letter outlining the experience detailed above, along with a brief CV showing your publication record and any reviewer or editorial experience.
Please submit applications to the Editor-in-Chief of IJTAHC, Wendy Babidge (eic.ijtahc@cambridge.org). The closing date for application is March 28, 2025.

◤ HTAi Medical Devices Interest Group Seeks Technical Officer
Are you new to HTA? Are you interested in connecting with the global HTA community? An extraordinary opportunity awaits you. Become a vital part of HTAi’s Interest Groups— apply to become an Interest Group Technical Officer!
The Medical Devices Interest Group (MDIG) is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual who is willing to provide one to two days a month to support its Co-Chairs and Steering Committee as a Technical Officer (TO), until December 2025 (subject to a positive evaluation by the IG Chairs, the contract may be extended for additional 12 months).
Examples of responsibilities include defining agendas, setting calls and taking minutes, writing reports, supporting project work and scientific papers, drafting press releases and other similar activities.
EuroScan International Network, a longstanding HTAi partner, is inviting HTAi members to join their first public discussion towards the establishment on a new Interest Group on “Implementation Research” within HTAi.
Reports have shown that even effective health technologies struggle to reach their full potential, impacting system sustainability and patient outcomes since dynamic contextual factors that support or block appropriate implementation and adoption are not reflected in regular HTA processes as they go beyond a discussion of formal, quantitative evidence. These include the complexity and fragmentation of healthcare systems, economic constraints or resistance to change. These barriers need to be overcome by new HTA-supporting processes from implementation research.
The goal of an “Implementation Research Interest Group (IRIG)” would be bridging the gap between innovation and implementation by providing evidence-based advice to drive awareness, acceptance, and successful integration.

◤ HTAi Webinar | Sharing Hospital-Based HTA Experience in Developing Countries
This webinar aims to share experiences from different developing countries on how to implement hospital-based HTA, its challenges and advances.
Introduction: Hospital-based HTA in low- and middle-income countries serves as an essential tool for improving healthcare outcomes and ensuring efficient allocation of resources. The Implementation of HB-HTA faces several challenges, such as limited financial and human resources, insufficient awareness of HTA use in hospitals and lack of adequate data. Formalizing HTA processes in hospitals can strengthen decision-making related to healthcare interventions, thereby improving patient outcomes and optimizing health expenditures. Leveraging regional collaborations and knowledge transfer of HTA applications can contribute to the efficiency and sustainability of health systems. This webinar is hosted by the HTAi HTA in Developing Countries Interest Group (DCIG).

Expenditures on oncology drugs are sharply rising due to the introduction of many new/innovative drugs and high drug prices. There are doubts about whether these treatments and associated costs always benefit patients and healthcare systems. An important question is whether an HTA lifecycle approach could contribute to better decision-making and more controlled and efficient/affordable access to and use of oncology drugs. This would fit with a national wish to focus more on lifecycle HTA for insured care to contribute to appropriate care.
