The HTAi 2025 Annual Meeting was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, June 14-18, 2025. Over 700 delegates from more than 60 countries attended the 5-day event. The event included two days of pre-conference workshops and three days of the conference presentations.

Workshops
Pre-conference Workshops marked the beginning of the 2025 Annual Meeting, with a diverse array of topics aimed at advancing knowledge and skills in HTA.
Throughout the weekend, attendees engaged in a series of Workshops covering various topics, from foundational concepts to ethics capacity building, to cutting-edge methodologies. The sessions were led by esteemed presenters who shared their expertise and insights on topics such as:
- Introduction to health technology assessment
- Integrating ethics in HTA
- Making topic selection in HTA transparent and robust
- Building evidence for the evaluation of digital heath technologies
- Using HTA to standardize clinical practice
- Building HTA in lower middle income countries
- AI in HTA
- How to prioritize rare diseases in the health system to allocate health technologies
- Utilizing innovative methods for HTA in South America
- NextGen evidence in HTA
The Workshops offered valuable opportunities for learning, open discussion, and collaboration among participants from diverse backgrounds—including HTA professionals, researchers, industry representatives, and policymakers.
RedETSA XVI Annual Meeting
HTAi was pleased to collaborate with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Argentina’s Ministry of Health for the 16th meeting of the Health Technology Assessment Network of the Americas (RedETSA), held June 13–14 in Buenos Aires alongside the HTAi 2025 Annual Meeting.
The meeting brought together representatives from HTA agencies, government, academia, and industry across Latin America and the Caribbean to strengthen regional cooperation, discuss shared priorities, and build capacity through targeted workshops.
By aligning RedETSA XVI with our Annual Meeting, HTAi helped create a unique space for global and regional perspectives to come together—reinforcing our shared commitment to supporting equitable, evidence-informed healthcare systems around the world.
Early Career Meet & Greet
Prior to the start of the Welcome Reception, emerging HTA professionals were invited to a the 3rd Annual Early Career Meet & Greet to get to know the HTAi Board of Directors and other established HTA professionals. Attendees played icebreaker games and spent time building the connections that become the foundation of Annual Meeting collaborations while enjoying small bites and local maté vendors.
Welcome Reception
The Annual Meeting Welcome Reception kicked off on Sunday evening at the stunning Palacio Paz, setting the tone for an exceptional week ahead. Guests enjoyed delicious food, lively conversation, and a warm atmosphere that showcased the spirit of the HTAi community.
Local organizers welcomed delegates with a vibrant video introduction to Argentina’s rich culture and breathtaking landscapes. Short remarks followed from HTAi Executive Director George Valiotis, along with Andrés Pichon-Rivière and Sebastián García-Martí from the local host organization, IECS. The celebration continued well into the night, marking a memorable start to the 2025 Annual Meeting.
Main Conference Events
Opening Ceremony and Keynote Address
The morning began with a warm welcome from the Regional Engagement Committee, featuring Sebastian García-Martí (Argentina), Luciene Fuentes Schluckebier Bonan (Brazil), and Adriana Robayo (Colombia). This was followed by an opening address from Argentina’s Minister of Health, Mario Lugones.
Watch it hereFollowing this, Dr. Rabia Sucu, President of HTAi, welcomed attendees on behalf of HTAi, underscoring the impact and importance of events like the Annual Meeting in driving global collaboration and evidence-based decision-making around the world. The ISPC Co-Chairs, Andres Pichon-Riviere, Dr. Iga Lipska, and Marina Richardson, also extended their greetings, setting the tone for the day’s discussions with a focus on NextGen evidence and the future of HTA.
A highlight of the morning was the keynote address by Bogi Eliasen, Executive Director of the Movement Health Foundation. Bogi shared his vision for the future of health, which includes a holistic perspective on the future of personalized and preventative health that integrates data, digital capabilities, and genomics into innovative health solutions. His vision of the future of health is a seamless bridge between personal and public domains, with digital innovation as the key catalyst in secondary prevention.

The first plenary session delved into the theme of NextGen HTA and embracing change to meet global demands. The discussion was rich and interactive, exploring:
- How HTA can move beyond its traditional gatekeeping function to actively shape healthcare systems, influence policy, and address complex challenges such as AI, gene therapies, precision medicine, and environmental impacts
- How HTA can keep pace with rapidly emerging health technologies while maintaining evidence-based, equitable evaluations that do not delay access to potentially life-saving innovations
- HTA’s potential to reduce healthcare disparities, promote sustainability, and influence global policy by integrating diverse contexts, social determinants, and the needs of underserved populations into assessments.
Panelists and audience members engaged in a lively discussion, sharing diverse perspectives on how HTA can ensure that healthcare systems remain resilient, inclusive, and responsive to the ever-evolving demands of modern medicine.

Back by popular demand, the HTAi 2025 Annual Meeting provided attendees with the opportunity to participate in networking breaks throughout the day through Brain Dates! These sessions facilitated one-on-one and small group discussions, enabling participants to connect, share experiences, and explore potential collaborations. The informal setting encouraged open dialogue and the exchange of innovative ideas, further enhancing the value of the meeting.
Exhibition Hall
Throughout the meeting, delegates gathered in the Exhibition Hall to chat with exhibitors and colleagues. The Exhibition Hall remained open and active throughout the 2025 Annual Meeting, with a prime location connecting delegates to presentation rooms as well as the Brain Dates meeting space.
Plenary Two
The distinguished Plenary Two panel engaged in a stimulating discussion on NextGen Methods, and whether they were just hype or something that will stick around for years to come. This Plenary featured a debate between panelists, arguing the benefits and challenges of methods. The discussion answered the following questions:
- How can AI enhance HTA processes, from evidence synthesis to predictive modelling?
- What approaches can integrate new data sources to enhance horizon scanning and related HTA practices?
- How will HTA adapt evidence standards to emerging trial designs and diverse sources of real-world evidence?
- In what ways can next-generation methods be incorporated into current regulatory and HTA practices?
The plenary situated HTA at the forefront of evidence-based decision-making, focusing on next-generation methods that are poised to endure beyond initial hype.

Wow, what a great night! Delegates enjoyed a beautiful dinner at the conference venue, the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center. The event included a three-course dinner and incredibly talented tango dancers! Delegates celebrated their successes of the conference well into the evening.
HTAi AGM
The day began with the eagerly anticipated Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Members. Attendees delved into key organizational updates and future plans, reviewed the past year’s achievements, examined financial reports, and voted on critical resolutions. The AGM provided a transparent platform for members to voice their opinions, ask questions, and actively participate in shaping the organization’s direction. The Board of Directors introduced new initiatives aimed at enhancing member engagement and expanding the organization’s societal impact.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our outgoing Board members, Wija Oortwijn, Dimitra Lingri, and Wim Goettsch, for their dedicated service and invaluable contributions. Their leadership has been instrumental in guiding our organization to new heights. A special thank-you to Wija Oortwijn, who has dedicated her time over the past 6 years as HTAi’s Vice President, President, and Past President.
We are also thrilled to welcome our new Board members, Alima Almadiyeva and Iga Lipska, as well as re-elected Board member Marco Marchetti. We look forward to their leadership and fresh perspectives.
Plenary Three
Plenary 3 was a thought-provoking session on how we can use HTA to achieve more transparent, equitable, and fair health systems. The dynamic discussion explored:
- How HTA can strengthen trust in health systems by enhancing transparency, countering disinformation, and ensuring the credibility of data and decision-making across all stakeholders
- how HTA can integrate equity assessments, support universal health coverage, and ensure timely access to essential health technologies, particularly for vulnerable populations and low- and middle-income countries
- How HTA can foster sustainable, adaptable healthcare systems by leveraging digital tools and sustainable practices to meet evolving global health needs
The session left participants and delegates with a deeper understanding of HTA’s practical impact, equipped with insights that can drive meaningful improvements in healthcare delivery across diverse settings.

HTAi’s new President, Ann Single, marked a meaningful milestone as the first HTAi President with a background as a patient representative— a powerful reflection of the evolving role of patient voices in HTA. In her speech, she celebrated the community’s collective achievements and set an inspiring tone for the future, emphasizing continued collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation across the global HTA landscape.
B. (Besir) Kemal Şahin from HIMSS Turkish Community previewed the HTAi 2026 Annual Meeting in Istanbul, Türkiye, promising an enriching experience in a location where continents meet.
Ann Single highlighted future directions, ongoing initiatives, and strategic visions for HTAi, providing a roadmap for members to engage with and contribute to the future of HTA.
